Alone she stands on an empty beach
looking out over the crashing waves
Fixing her gaze in one direction
A young maiden waiting
for her love to return from sea
Yet he never comes
She stands there from dawn to dusk
Daylight fading into darkness
Seagulls flying overhead her only friends
Exhausted she collapses to the ground
countless grains of sand cradle her
as she cries herself to sleep
and the tide carries her tears out to sea.
